Something New Everyday.. and a few announcements.

This was the first time I've ever had ethnic food from the country I will be traveling to the next day. haha. does that make sense? Is that cheating..?
I also completed phase one of support raising for Uganda: printing off some letters :) but that's so far away..

Feb 22, 2013 is the first time I got on a plane and flew to Los Angelos and then to Malaysia and then to Indonesia!!!

For the next few weeks Somethings New will keep happening, but I will have limited internet access. When I get the chance, I will post on fb and will catch up on my blog. I will have no phone. so don't text me. :)

I am flying out at 8:10 tomorrow morning, so I will say my goodbyes now! Goodbye milk. Goodbye snow (the plan is not to see you again until 2014..). Goodbye parents. Goodbye pals. Goodbye siblings.. except Peter. Goodbye Canada. I think that's it. Oh. And goodbye English.. er..

Today is the first time I've had something new before noon! It's the first time I had a job interview at 4:00am.. sort of.. and it's the first time I've finished a 6.5-hour work day before 11:00am! Thumbs up for snow removal :)

Something new everyday. Today I spent more time and energy packing a backpack than I'd ever spent before. And voila! Here she is, almost ready to go!

Today was the first time that I'd helped plan and run Camp Shalom's winter carnival. It's also the first time I bottle fed a calf... though I was mildly unsuccessful. Nonetheless, lots of fun and frozen toes!

SNE.

sometimes I hit the end of the day and realize I forgot to plan new stuff. But then it's cool to take time to analyze your day in a way you never have before, to see what you did that actually was new.

Today I went to Harvest London's lunch and learn for students, I've been before, but some new stuff happened. I actually talked to the hosts for a while and found some connections to people who work within my field of study, yay for connections! I observed some ppl playing pool and learned more about it.. I might actually be able to sink something if ever I have the guts to try again while others are watching. And I walked all the way home with my dad. It wasn't too far, but it was chilly. Nice and new.

wow that was a long post.. sorry. I'll try to plan better next time :)

I finally started learning to play guitar today! I've always wanted to learn. Today my mum taught me a handful of chords, oodles of fun and three sore fingers! :)

Something new everyday!

Today I discovered the best way to keep soap out of your eyes while showering: goggles! Haha. I tested out a couple pairs for my trip, and guess what? they all work! :) SNE

Today I obtained the necessary items to become a bush-whackin' preacher! I got a travel-size Bible and a floppy Tilly hat, and all for less than $4! (picture is being too stubborn to upload at the moment)

Also, I felt taken advantage of by our health care system today, usually they're pretty good : (
When I went to purchase more contact lenses I was surprised to find I needed to update my prescription. After $80 and an hour delay looking at lights and having air puffs blown in my eyes I was told my prescription was still the same (surprise!). While that was annoying, it was quite comical when they told me I have great vision, it's better than 20/20 (with corrective lenses.. um, duh!). Ha! Altogether, a new experience.


Wednesday, February 13

Something new everyday. Today I got a snake in the mail! I think he will come to Indonesia with me... Also, I "snuck" into my neighbour's hot tub with my mum. Never done that before!

Today I searched the blagosphere for inspiration on new things, and discovered a plethora of ideas. It turns out someone did this same thing last year (http://tinylittlefella.tumblr.com) only, he also fundraised for ectopic pregnancies.. hmm, maybe I'll get a cause going..

Also discovered a site called Learn Something New Everyday (http://lsned.com) where I learned about the dull and shiny sides of tinfoil, the difference between gears and sprockets, and how to pretend to eat a goldfish!

Last but not least, I discovered a site where bloggers do 43 things they've never done before (http://www.43things.com/things/view/95779/do-43-things-ive-never-done-before), maybe I'll join!

Later this day I met my first couchsurfing friend! (http://www.couchsurfing.org) We had an interesting coffee date experience: I'd never had a coffee date in three different buildings! The first had a loud live band, the second closed 15 minutes after we got there... the third was Pizza Pizza, open til 2am! :) Oodles of fun!

Today I picked up my lovely neighbour pal from school and brought her home for hot chocolate and games, yippee! first time I ventured in that building (obviously... because I don't just wander into schools all the time...), and first time I'd played "Cranium: balloon lagoon"!

Today we tried out a new church a little closer to home: New Hope church on main street in Hamilton. Quite good! I also went to the new A&W down the street for the very first time. mmm. burgers.

Something fresh, novel, new everyday!

Today I checked out a new public pool with my housemates. We had an hour of freshness, splashing children, and fun and such. 'Twas grand.

And then I got hiccups from being cold and having wet hair.. Good thing I know the remedy: Hold your breath for 10 seconds, swallow 3 times, and burp. Works every time!

Today I joined the Matthew25House rescue squad: shoveling out a number of driveways (a number of times), and freeing 4 cars on our street alone (and 1 not on our street)! — with Marion Vandenakker and Angie Poot.

Today our mission house met another mission house! We got to know some of the Hamilton Fellows, a group that ministers to recent college grads by finding work and accommodation while providing biblical teaching and mentorship. Cool!

Something new everyday. Today I went to Hamilton's soupfest! I had chicken chipotle soup, lobster poutine soup, and pork corn chowder. Yummm

The plan for something new today was to have a record-setting sock monkey-making day. I was slightly delayed in my task due to babysitting various 2-year-olds throughout the day (which was new!) but did manage to finish off two monkeys, start these guys I showed you yesterday, and finish the socktopus!

Something new everyday. Prepared some crazy new sock monkey skins today, as well as trying out the socktopus!

SNE. Things that are new are not always things that are good, but experiencing life means ups and downs happen. My gecko died today :( Deino's never died before.....

Today's somethings new are good and bad.

Good. I worked with my dad doing snow removal today, we did 19 driveways in under 3 hours, cool!
Bad. My gecko randomly dropped his tail and is acting quite lethargic. I am both perplexed and upset at this strange occurrence. :(

February 1

Today's something new is not very exciting.. Today my boss told me we don't have enough work so I get next week off. Huh. That's never happened before.
In addition, I said the non-word "gigglesnazz". Thanks for the inspiration Andrew— with Joel Wenaus.
